WalserPophamTwo Harvard Education Press titles received the honor of being listed on American School Board Journal's list of 10 Notable Education Books of 2009. American School Board Journal is an editorially independent publication of the National School Boards Association (NSBA).

Nancy Walser's The Essential School Board Book: Better Governance in the Age of Accountability and W. James Popham's Unlearned Lessons: Six Stumbling Blocks to Our Schools' Success were among the top 10 books listed by the magazine in its January 2010 issue.

In The Essential School Board Book, former school board member Nancy Walser summarizes research linking school board practices to student achievement. It features stories of sixteen diverse boards around the country—elected and appointed; rural, urban, and suburban—and the policies and procedures they have employed to enhance student achievement.

In Unlearned Lessons, noted assessment expert Popham examines six mistakes that have persisted over time in the field of education and gives examples of encounters with these mistakes in the course of his professional career.
