    The Rhetorical Construction of "the Teacher"

    The rhetorical practices used in an influential article by Lee S. Shulman (1987) to construct "the teacher" as an object of study are examined. A more "critical literacy" among the readers and writers of research texts should be developed through an increased scrutiny of the issues surrounding text construction.
